About The Event

Zen is something we are — our true nature expressing itself moment by moment.

Zen is something we do — a disciplined practice through which we can realize the joy of being.

We invite you to discover the way of realizing the non-dualistic, vibrant, subtle, and interconnected nature of all life in a Retreat with Venerable Sudhammacara. To cultivate continuous, clear awareness of the present moment. Always returning, whether from an enjoyable fantasy, an emotional outburst or a melancholy remembrance.

Always returning to this moment. With awareness. With mindfulness.

The retreat will also include a Yoga & Pranayam session, led by Rie Itabashi, who has been teaching Yoga in Ven. Sudhammacara's meditation retreats.

About Venerable Sudhammacara

Venerable Sudhammacara (Ryodo Yamashita) is a Japanese monk and was ordained in the Japanese Soto Zen tradition in 1983 under Kosho Uchiyama Roshi. He practiced and taught zazen meditation for more than 18 years, including for several years at Valley Zendo in Massachusetts, USA.

In 2001, he took Theravadan bhikku ordination in the Burmese forest monk tradition and trained in Shamatha and Vipassana meditation in Burma and Sri Lanka. Since 2006, he has also been studying Tibetan Buddhism under Trulshik Rinpoche and Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche.

Venerable is the founder of One Dharma International. Yamashita-sensei, as he is known in Japan teaches an innovative, non-sectarian approach to meditation known as the “One Dharma Method,” or Clear Sky Meditation. The development of this approach came through years of trial and error in his own practice and intimate work with his students from around the world.
